Extend the lifespan of your product

Investing a little time in regular maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of your product.
Simple tasks such as cleaning, replacing worn parts, lubricating, and refreshing the paint can make a big difference. These steps not only help your product last longer saving you money in the long run but also ensure it remains safe to use by reducing the risk of accidents and damage. Proper maintenance also means you won’t have to replace the product prematurely.

Although our products are known for their long service life, this page offers useful tips and ideas on how to extend that lifespan even further.

Your Maintenance

Guide

Maintenance of Steel

From our factory in Viborg, the frames and tubs on our products are either powder-coated or galvanised.

A high-quality powder coating protects the product against rust and corrosion, reducing the need for maintenance. The steel should be regularly wiped with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust, which can wear down the coating. Avoid scratches and impacts on the surface, as these can damage the coating and lead to rust. If scratches occur, apply a rust-preventive primer and touch up with a suitable metal paint to seal the surface.

Galvanisation also protects the steel from corrosion and can extend its lifespan significantly. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth and lukewarm soapy water. Avoid acidic cleaners, as they can damage the galvanised surface. If surface rust begins to form, gently use a nylon brush and apply a zinc spray afterwards.

In general, avoid storing your product in damp or salty environments for extended periods. Lubricate moving parts (such as wheel brackets) with oil or grease as needed.

Maintenance of Plastic (e.g. on tubs)

Maintenance of Plastic (e.g. on tubs)

Several of the tubs on our wheelbarrows are made of plastic. The red plastic tub has the advantage of being frost-resistant – an important feature that helps prevent cracking or damage in cold weather conditions. In addition, the plastic material is lightweight, making the wheelbarrow easier to handle. Plastic tubs are also easy to clean, as soil and dirt do not easily adhere to the surface.

To maintain the plastic components on our products, we recommend regular cleaning with water and a mild soap solution. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on the plastic.
Always protect the plastic from prolonged exposure to sunlight, as this can cause drying and cracking. Heavy impacts should be avoided, especially in cold temperatures when the material is more brittle.

Maintenance of Aluminium

Some of our products contain aluminium – a material that combines low weight with high strength. Aluminium requires minimal maintenance, but to preserve both appearance and functionality, we recommend cleaning the surfaces with water and a mild soap solution. Use a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the surface. Abrasive cleaners and steel wool should be avoided.

Although aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide layer, damp or salty environments can still cause discolouration over time. Therefore, it’s a good idea to rinse and dry the surface after use in such conditions. To ensure a long service life, regularly check joints and welds for signs of wear or cracks. Lubricating moving parts with a suitable oil is also recommended, as even light corrosion can affect performance and durability over time.

Maintenance of Handles

PVC Handles
PVC handles are durable and require minimal maintenance. To keep them clean and in good condition, we recommend wiping them regularly with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. It’s important to check the grips for cracks or looseness and replace them if necessary to ensure both comfort and safety during use. Avoid using solvents or alcohol-based cleaners, as these can make the PVC surface porous and reduce its durability.

Wooden Handles
Wooden handles offer a classic, natural grip and, with proper care, are long-lasting. Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth and avoid excessive exposure to water, which can cause the wood to expand or crack. Regularly check for splinters or small cracks. If needed, lightly sand the handles and treat them with wood oil or lacquer. This protects the wood from moisture and significantly extends its lifespan.

Storage of Your Ravendo Product

Your Ravendo product should be stored indoors or under a roof when not in use. Moisture and rain can cause rust over time, especially on the frame and wheel axle. If indoor storage is not possible, we recommend covering the product with a waterproof tarpaulin.

Avoid exposing the product to direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can affect both the durability and colour of the components.

Inspect for Wear and Damage

To ensure safety and long product life, your Ravendo product should be regularly checked for signs of wear. Make sure the wheels turn freely and remove any debris that may block movement. Pneumatic tyres should be kept at the correct pressure, while solid and puncture-proof wheels should be inspected for cracks and wear.

Also check handles, frame, and tub for damage or loose parts. Tighten bolts and screws as needed—especially after heavy use. Avoid overloading and strong impacts, as these can reduce the product’s lifespan.

At Ravendo A/S, we offer original spare parts for our Danish-made product range, ensuring the correct fit and performance. Please note that using non-original spare parts will void your warranty.

Avoid Overloading

It can be tempting to load the product to its maximum capacity, but overloading can damage the wheels, axles, and frame. Always check the product’s maximum load capacity and avoid exceeding this limit. Overfilling not only risks damaging the product but can also make it harder to control, increasing the risk of accidents.
